New at Podium MX Racing: Professional Vapor Honing for Motorcycle Parts

Restore engine cases, covers, carburetors, suspension components and more with professional motorcycle vapor honing from Podium MX Racing.

Bring Old Motorcycle Parts Back to Life with Podium MX Vapor Honing

Years of oxidation, baked-on grime, staining and corrosion can make a perfectly usable motorcycle component look like it is ready for the scrap pile. Traditional cleaning methods often fall short, while aggressive dry blasting can leave a rough finish or affect surfaces that need to remain precise.

That is why Podium MX Racing is introducing our new professional vapor honing service for motorcycle and powersports components.

Vapor honing uses a pressurized mixture of water and fine glass media to lift away oxidation, carbon deposits, staining and embedded grime. The water cushions the media as it works, producing a smooth, uniform satin finish without the harsh surface texture commonly associated with dry blasting.

The result is simple: the same original part, restored with a clean, factory-fresh appearance.

What Is Vapor Honing?

Vapor honing, also called wet blasting, combines fine abrasive media with water inside a controlled blasting cabinet. The slurry cleans the surface while the water softens the impact of the media.

This makes the process especially well suited to aluminum motorcycle components. It can remove years of oxidation and contamination while leaving behind a consistent, low-glare satin finish. When properly prepared and masked, machined surfaces, sealing areas, bearing locations and threaded bores remain protected throughout the process.

Unlike a quick cosmetic wash, vapor honing reaches into casting texture, corners and difficult areas where dirt and oxidation tend to remain trapped.

More Than Just a Better-Looking Part

A clean finish is the most visible result, but vapor honing also makes it easier to inspect a component before it goes back into service. Removing heavy grime and oxidation can reveal damage, corrosion or wear that may have been difficult to see beforehand.

For racers and builders, it is an excellent finishing step during an engine rebuild or full bike project. For vintage restorations, it can dramatically improve the appearance of original components without replacing them with reproduction parts. And for a well-used race bike, it is one of the most effective ways to bring tired-looking aluminum back to a professional standard.

Motorcycle Parts We Can Vapor Hone

Our vapor honing service is suitable for a wide range of cast, forged and machined motorcycle components, including:

  • Engine cases

  • Cylinder heads

  • Cylinders

  • Clutch and ignition covers

  • Carburetor bodies

  • Suspension components

  • Fork lowers

  • Hubs

  • Brake calipers and brackets

  • Hardware and fasteners

  • Vintage and restoration components

If you are unsure whether a specific part is a good candidate, send us a few clear photos. We will review its material, condition and critical surfaces before providing a quote.

Our Four-Step Process

Every job follows a controlled process designed around the requirements of motorcycle components.

1. Inspect and Prepare

We inspect the parts, remove surface contamination and identify any areas requiring special protection.

2. Mask Critical Surfaces

Bearing locations, threaded bores, sealing surfaces and other critical features are plugged or masked as required before honing begins.

3. Vapor Hone, Rinse and Dry

The water-and-glass-media slurry removes oxidation, carbon and staining. The components are then thoroughly rinsed, flushed and dried to remove residual media.

4. Final Quality Check

Each part receives a final inspection and is photographed before it is carefully packed for pickup or return shipping.

Carburetors, Suspension Components and Detail Parts

Vapor honing is not limited to complete engine packages. Carburetor bodies, suspension components, covers, brackets and small hardware can all benefit from the same controlled finishing process.

These detail parts often make the difference between a bike that merely runs well and a build that looks professionally finished from end to end.

Straightforward Pricing and Fast Turnaround

Single-component jobs start at $45. Our MX Engine Package starts at $325 and covers up to six components, including cases, head, cylinder and covers refinished as a matched set.

Custom quotes are available for complete restorations, vintage builds, suspension components and volume batch work. Final pricing depends on the size, material and condition of the parts.

Standard turnaround is typically 48–72 hours after the prepared parts are received, subject to inspection and current workload. Local drop-off and pickup are available by appointment in Winchester, California, and nationwide shipping is available.
